Equality Objectives Statement

As a Catholic school, we are guided by the teachings of Christ and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, which call us to uphold the dignity of every human person, promote justice, and foster a community rooted in love, respect, and service. We welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010 and embrace them as part of our mission to live out the Gospel values in all aspects of school life.
The school’s general duties with regard to equality are:

  • Fostering good relationships between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

We will not discriminate against, harass, or victimise any staff member, pupil, prospective pupil, or other member of the school community because of their:

We aim to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, with special emphasis on promoting equality and diversity, and eradicating prejudicial incidents for pupils and staff. Our school is committed to not only eliminating discrimination, but also increasing understanding and appreciation for diversity, in a way that reflects the inclusive nature of the Church and the teachings of Jesus.
Aims to Eradicate Discrimination
We believe that a greater level of success from pupils and staff can be achieved by recognising and celebrating the God-given uniqueness of each individual. Creating an inclusive environment where all feel confident, safe, and valued is a core commitment of our school. This environment will be achieved by:
  • Being respectful and compassionate, following Christ’s example.
  • Always treating all members of the school community fairly and with dignity.
  • Developing an understanding of diversity and inclusion and the benefits it brings to our shared life.
  • Adopting an inclusive attitude that reflects the values of love, justice and peace.
  • Ensuring our curriculum is inclusive and accessible to all, and reflects the richness of God’s creation.
  • Encouraging empathy, open-mindedness, and a spirit of service.
  • Challenging bias and injustice, and promoting reconciliation and understanding.

Curriculum and Community
We are committed to having a balanced, diverse, and fair curriculum. We believe that our pupils should be exposed to ideas and concepts that challenge their thinking and help them grow into compassionate, inclusive individuals. Challenging and controversial concepts are delivered in a way that promotes respect, dignity, and understanding, in line with Catholic teaching.
Dealing with Prejudice and Celebrating Diversity
We do not tolerate any form of prejudice-related incident. Whether direct or indirect, we treat discrimination against any member of our school community with the utmost seriousness. When an incident is reported, we ensure appropriate action is taken and a resolution is reached that is both fair and restorative.
Our pupils are taught to be:

Our staff are expected to:
  • Promote diversity and equality in line with Catholic values

Throughout the year, we provide opportunities to celebrate diversity, including:
  • Planning activities for key diversity awareness days
  • Inviting guest speakers to share experiences and perspectives
  • Incorporating lessons about diversity, justice, and inclusion into the curriculum

Diversity and representation
As a Catholic school, we are deeply committed to the Gospel values of dignity, respect, and love for all. In line with our mission and ethos, we actively work to ensure that every member of our school community feels seen, valued, and included, regardless of background, ability, or identity.
We promote representation through:
  • Inclusive Curriculum: Our curriculum reflects diverse cultures, histories, and perspectives, helping all pupils see themselves in their learning and appreciate the richness of God’s creation.
  • Celebration of Diversity: We mark key events such as International Women’s Day, and World Faiths Week, ensuring pupils learn about and celebrate the contributions of different groups in whole school gatherings and through books made available around school.
  • Pupil Voice: We encourage all pupils to share their views through school councils, DOVES, Pupil Parliament, Sports Council, and class discussions, ensuring that decisions reflect the needs and experiences of all.
  • Staff Training: Staff receive ongoing professional development on equality, diversity, and inclusion, helping them to create welcoming and respectful learning environments.
  • Targeted Support and Opportunities: We monitor participation in clubs, leadership roles, and enrichment activities to ensure equitable access. For example, we are actively working to increase girls’ participation in sports.
  • Community Engagement: We build strong relationships with families and local organisations to reflect the diversity of our wider community and to support all pupils in flourishing.
Through these actions, we strive to live out our Catholic values by building a school where every child and adult is recognised as a unique and precious individual, made in the image of God.
Inclusion
At the heart of our Catholic school is the belief that every individual is made in the image and likeness of God. This foundational principle guides our commitment to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment for all members of our school community—pupils, staff, families, and visitors.
We promote inclusion through:
  • Gospel Values and Catholic Social Teaching: Our ethos is rooted in Gospel values such as compassion, justice, and dignity. We actively teach and model these values, encouraging pupils to treat one another with kindness and respect, and to stand up against injustice and exclusion.
  • Inclusive Curriculum and Worship: Our curriculum reflects the diversity of our world, ensuring that all pupils see themselves represented in the stories, histories, and cultures they learn about. Our prayer and liturgy and liturgical celebrations are inclusive and reflective of the whole school community, with opportunities for all pupils to participate meaningfully.
  • Celebrating Diversity: We celebrate the richness of our school community through assemblies, Masses and through our well planned and sequenced curriculum offer.  These highlight different backgrounds, abilities, and experiences All of which helps to build understanding and appreciation among pupils and staff.
  • Support for All Learners: We provide tailored support to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, and other additional needs. Our staff work collaboratively to ensure that every child can access the curriculum and thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
  • Staff Development and Awareness: Staff receive regular training on equality, diversity, and inclusion, including how to challenge unconscious bias and promote inclusive practices. We encourage reflective teaching and learning that considers the needs of all learners.
  • Pupil Voice and Leadership: We empower pupils to share their views and take on leadership roles through school councils, DOVES, Pupil Parliament, Sports Council programmes. These opportunities help pupils develop confidence and a sense of belonging.
Family and Community Engagement
We work in partnership with families and the wider community to ensure that everyone feels welcome and involved in school life. Communication is inclusive and accessible, and we actively seek feedback to improve our practices.
Through these actions, we strive to live out our mission as a Catholic school: to love and serve one another, to celebrate our differences, and to ensure that every member of our community feels valued and included.
