PLEASE READ - IMPORTANT Online Safety Update
7 July 2020 (by Cecilia Rigby (crigby))
It is with regret that it has come to our attention that children in our school have been contacted by a stranger and groomed through an app called DISCORD.
The child in school was encouraged to download the app whilst playing on ROBLOX. The child was then encouraged to talk via this app and photographs were requested. The police are involved and investigating the situation.
At school, we make keeping our children safe online a priority in PSHE, Computing lessons and other lessons across the curriculum. We also send newsletters and links with advice for parents/carers, on at least, a monthly basis with advice as to how to keep our children safe online. These newsletters can be found on the Online Safety Page of the website. Please take the time to read the advice and keep as up-to-date as possible. A difficult challenge as technology always seems to be one step ahead. Please discuss staying safe online with your child and take the opportunity to check your child's devices.
Over the next two weeks, lessons will be completed in school and they will be sent to parents/carers for home learning. Please take the time to discuss the content of these with your children at home. By constantly working together, making it a priority, and not becoming complacent, we will be more successful in making sure our children stay safe.
Obviously, this is a sensitive situation for the family involved and we would appreciate your discretion in ensuring conversations regarding the specifics of this incident are not discussed on social media or parent conversation groups.
Thank you for your continued support.
